Description

Caprese Skewers are a fresh and colorful appetizer featuring cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, and mini mozzarella balls drizzled with extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze, seasoned with kosher salt and black pepper. Perfect for a light, elegant starter or party snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Skewers

  • 16 to 18 (4-inch) wooden skewers

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes
  • 1 (12-ounce) container miniature cherry-sized fresh mozzarella balls (ciliegine)
  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves (about 36 leaves)

For Drizzling and Seasoning

  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Skewers: Take 16 to 18 (4-inch) wooden skewers and set them aside for assembling the skewers.
  2. Thread the Ingredients: For each skewer, thread 1 cherry tomato first, then 1 fresh basil leaf (folded in half if large), followed by 1 miniature mozzarella ball, another fresh basil leaf, and finally 1 more cherry tomato.
  3. Arrange on Platter: Once all skewers are assembled, arrange them neatly on a serving platter for presentation.
  4. Drizzle and Season: Lightly drizzle the skewers on the platter with extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze for flavor and shine. Then sprinkle kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper over the skewers to taste.

Notes

  • Use in-season, ripe cherry tomatoes for the best flavor.
  • Fresh mini mozzarella balls (ciliegine) provide an authentic texture and taste.
  • If basil leaves are large, fold them in half to fit better on the skewer.
  • Balsamic glaze adds a sweet tangy balance but can be substituted with balsamic vinegar if necessary.
  • These skewers are best served immediately to keep the basil fresh and the cheese firm.
