Description

Deliciously rich and creamy Chocolate Orange Truffles combining deep dark chocolate with fresh orange zest for a zesty, festive treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 3.5 oz dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
  • 2 tbsp refined coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp orange juice (freshly squeezed)
  • ½ tsp orange zest
  • 2 tbsp icing sugar (powdered sugar)
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder (plus extra for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Chop Chocolate: Chop or break the bar of chocolate into small pieces to ensure even melting.
  2. Melt Chocolate: Place a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of boiling water, add the chocolate to the bowl and stir gently until fully melted.
  3. Add Coconut Oil: Remove the bowl from heat and stir in the refined coconut oil until well combined and smooth.
  4. Mix Flavorings: Add the freshly squeezed orange juice, orange zest, icing sugar, and cocoa powder to the melted chocolate mixture. Stir thoroughly until completely smooth.
  5. Chill Mixture: Refrigerate the mixture for about 25 minutes or until firm enough to handle and shape into truffles.
  6. Shape Truffles: Use a small spoon to scoop portions of the firm mixture and roll them into balls with your palms. To avoid melting, dust your hands with cocoa powder before rolling if they feel warm.
  7. Coat Truffles: Roll the formed truffles in cocoa powder until evenly coated for a classic finish.
  8. Store and Serve: Place the truffles in an airtight container and serve them at room temperature for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Using refined coconut oil ensures a neutral flavor that doesn't overpower the chocolate and orange.
  • If the mixture is too sticky to roll, chill it longer to firm up.
  • Dusting your hands with cocoa powder while rolling prevents the truffles from melting too quickly.
  • Store truffles in an airtight container to maintain freshness and flavor.
  • These truffles make a great vegan and gluten-free gift or party treat.
