Description

A classic and flavorful dish featuring grilled Italian sausages served with charred bell peppers and onions. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or casual entertaining, this recipe combines the robust taste of sausages with tender, seasoned vegetables for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausages

  • 6 mild or hot Italian sausages

Vegetables

  • 2 green bell peppers
  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 2 Vidalia or yellow onions

Seasonings

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Red pepper flakes, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill: Heat grill to medium-high heat and place a grill pan on the grill. Allow the grill pan to heat for approximately 5 minutes.
  2. Prepare Vegetables: While the grill is heating, core and slice the red and green bell peppers. Peel and slice the Vidalia or yellow onions. Place all the sliced vegetables in a large bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Toss to coat evenly.
  3. Grill Sausages: Place the sausages on the hot grill pan. Cook them for 2 to 3 minutes per side until they are slightly charred and cooked through. Remove the sausages from the pan, place them on a plate, and tent with foil to keep warm.
  4. Grill Vegetables: Add the prepared peppers and onions to the grill pan. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes, tossing occasionally when the edges develop a charred look. Once cooked and tender, remove the vegetables from the grill pan.
  5. Serve: Serve the grilled sausages alongside the peppers and onions. This dish pairs wonderfully with your favorite side dish or toasted crusty rolls for a hearty meal.

Notes

  • Using a grill pan on the grill helps prevent the vegetables from falling through the grates and ensures even cooking.
  • You can choose between mild or hot Italian sausages based on your spice preference.
  • Red pepper flakes add extra heat if desired; sprinkle on when serving.
  • This dish is great served on toasted rolls for a classic sausage sandwich.
  • For a lower fat option, consider using turkey or chicken Italian sausages.
