Description

This Honey Dijon Garlic Chicken Breasts recipe features tender, juicy chicken breasts coated in a rich and flavorful glaze made from butter, garlic, honey, and whole grain Dijon mustard. Baked to perfection, this dish combines sweet and tangy flavors with a savory garlic punch, perfect for an easy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 large boneless skinless chicken breasts, about 6 ounces each
  • pinch salt and pepper

Glaze

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 6 cloves minced garlic
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp whole grain Dijon mustard
  • pinch salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with aluminum foil. Use a pan that has about a half inch of space around each chicken breast to prevent the glaze from burning. Place the empty pan in a 425 degree Fahrenheit oven to heat up while you prepare the glaze.
  2. Make the glaze: Melt the butter in a small sauté pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 to 60 seconds just to soften it, being careful not to brown it. Then stir in the honey, whole grain Dijon mustard, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Simmer the mixture over medium heat for 1 to 2 minutes until it begins to reduce slightly.
  3. Season and arrange chicken: Lightly season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Remove the hot baking pan from the oven and place the chicken breasts in the pan, spaced evenly.
  4. Glaze and bake: Pour the hot glaze evenly over the chicken breasts. Return the pan to the 425 degree Fahrenheit oven and bake for 15 minutes. Then remove the pan from the oven and baste the chicken breasts with the glaze pooled at the bottom of the pan.
  5. Finish baking: Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of a chicken breast reads 170 degrees Fahrenheit.
  6. Rest and serve: Remove the chicken from the oven and allow it to rest for 5 minutes before serving to retain juices and flavor.

Notes

  • Using a smaller baking pan prevents the glaze from spreading thin and burning during baking.
  • Be careful not to brown the garlic when cooking the glaze, as it will become bitter.
  • You can use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken is fully cooked and juicy.
  • Resting the chicken before serving allows the juices to redistribute for better flavor and texture.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with olive oil or a dairy-free margarine.
