Scale
Main Dip Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided use)
- 14 ounces sour cream
- 10 ounce can Rotel, drained (diced tomatoes with green chiles)
- 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened to room temperature
- 3/4 cup chopped ham (divided use)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Bread and Garnish
- 16 ounce French bread loaf
- 1 green onion, sliced
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350° F to prepare for baking the dip.
- Mix the dip ingredients: In a bowl, combine 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, drained Rotel, softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup chopped ham, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Mix well until fully combined. Set aside.
- Prepare the bread: Cut the top of the French bread loaf into an oval shape, slicing down but not cutting through the bottom side, then cut the sliced top bread into pieces for dipping.
- Hollow out the bread: Remove excess bread from inside the loaf carefully using your hands, reserving the removed bread pieces for dipping if desired.
- Fill the bread with dip: Transfer the cheese mixture into the hollowed-out bread loaf evenly.
- Add cheese topping: Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese over the filled dip inside the bread.
- Wrap and bake: Wrap the loaf with aluminum foil, leaving some space so the foil doesn’t touch the cheese or use nonstick foil for best results. Bake in the oven for 45 minutes or until heated through.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from the oven, top with remaining chopped ham and sliced green onions. Optionally sprinkle additional red pepper flakes before serving.
Notes
- Use nonstick aluminum foil to prevent cheese from sticking during baking if possible.
- Hollowing the bread carefully prevents the loaf from breaking and helps hold the dip better.
- Leftover hollowed bread pieces can be toasted and used for dipping.
- For spicier flavor, add extra red pepper flakes inside the dip or as a garnish.
- Ensure cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easy mixing.
- This dip is best served warm directly from the oven for optimal creaminess.
