Description

This creamy peppermint fudge combines rich semi-sweet chocolate and sweetened condensed milk with a hint of peppermint extract, topped optionally with crushed candy canes. It's an easy no-bake treat perfect for the holiday season, delivering a smooth, chocolaty, minty delight in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Fudge Base

  • 2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ teaspoon peppermint extract

Topping (Optional)

  • 6 mini candy canes, crushed

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium-sized microwave-safe glass bowl, combine the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter.
  2. Microwave Melt: Heat the mixture in the microwave for 90 seconds. Remove and stir until the chocolate and butter are mostly melted. If needed, heat for an additional 15 seconds and stir again until smooth and fully combined. Alternatively, melt the ingredients using a double boiler on the stovetop over simmering water, stirring frequently.
  3. Add Peppermint: Stir in the peppermint extract until the mixture is evenly flavored and smooth.
  4. Prepare Pan: Line a tray or baking dish with parchment paper. Pour the fudge mixture onto the lined tray and spread it evenly to about 1-inch thickness using a spatula.
  5. Add Topping: Sprinkle the crushed mini candy canes evenly on top of the fudge while still soft to create a festive crunch.
  6. Chill: Refrigerate the fudge until set and firm, usually about 2 hours or longer.
  7. Slice and Store: Once chilled, cut the fudge into 36 small squares. Store the fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Notes

  • The fudge can be made without candy canes if you prefer a plain chocolate peppermint flavor.
  • If you don't have a microwave, melting ingredients using a double boiler on the stovetop works perfectly to prevent scorching the chocolate.
  • For a thicker fudge, use a smaller tray or increase the chilling time before cutting.
  • Use mini candy canes crushed finely for better distribution and texture in the topping.
  • You can substitute peppermint extract with other extracts like vanilla or almond for different flavors.
